Domain holders don't fall victim to this email scam

There is yet another form of email scam targeting domain name owners seeking to have them complete 'search registration' in order for their websites to be indexed by major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. The email usually comes with the title: Important: Complete Search Engine Registration for your domain - where is your actual domain name.

Given how the email has been addressed, it might fool some to think it is genuine. Information such as your name and email address can be publicly accessed by anyone who can simply look up the WHOIS information for your particular domain.
Below is a sample of the scam email.
Hi there FirstName LastName,

Domain Name: (Account #66418132)

This email is being sent out to you because search registration for is pending.
Please register these domains to search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo ASAP to avoid late fees.
Registering for search engines would help you show up in search results and increase your online presence.
